A first of its kind. A guide to the policies in action right now in the 136th Ohio General Assembly from Black legislators across our state.
For the first time, the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation has produced a comprehensive guide that brings the work happening at the Statehouse directly to you. The State of Black Ohio Policy Book documents the legislative efforts of Ohio's 22 Black lawmakers, organized by policy area, in plain and accessible language.
This is more than a publication. It is a resource tool. A record of what Black legislative leadership looks like in Ohio.
Why This Book Matters
Bipartisanship is required for legislation to move through the General Assembly. This book gives you a firsthand view of who is doing the work, what is advancing, and what still needs to happen. It is also a roadmap for advocacy. Community organizations, faith leaders, and partners can now see legislative priorities clearly and identify where to engage on the bills that matter most.
In THIS moment, Black representation matters more than ever. Knowing what is happening at the Statehouse is essential.
"Policy shapes more of our daily lives than most people realize. It determines the quality of our children's schools, the cost of insulin at the pharmacy, whether a stoplight gets installed on your corner, and how quickly a pothole on your street gets fixed. This book brings that work into the light.'"
— President Shayla L. Davis

Your Voice Shapes What Comes Next
Inside the book you will find the State of Black Ohio Survey, a tool designed to gather the voices of Black Ohioans on the issues that matter most. The information collected will inform the Policy Agenda for the forthcoming State of Black Ohio Report, which will develop policy through the lens of the concerns and priorities of Black Ohioans. This is your seat at the table.
