OLBCF Responds to Supreme Court Ruling in Louisiana v. Callais

We are outraged by the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais. This decision represents yet another step backward in the ongoing fight to protect fair representation and the fundamental rights of our communities.

“Let me be clear about what just happened. The Supreme Court did not strike down a map. They dismantled the very protection Black communities bled for, and they did it in broad daylight," said OLBCF President Shayla L. Davis "As Justice Kagan made plain in her dissent, Section 2 has been rendered all but a dead letter. This is not an isolated decision. It is part of a coordinated rollback that has been decades in the making.”

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation is prepared to meet this moment with strategy, policy, and organizing power. While this ruling weakens the law, it does not weaken our resolve. We will continue to fight for equitable representation and justice.

This moment demands action. Elections have consequences, and the leaders we choose, and the judges they appoint, shape decisions that impact our communities every day. We cannot afford complacency. We must turn our outrage into action by voting, advocating for policies that uplift our communities, and organizing for outcomes that reflect our collective power.

Our communities deserve to be seen, heard, and fairly represented. We will not be silent, and we will not stand still.
