Statement from OLBCF on the ICE Murder of Renee Nicole Good

Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (OLBCF) extends its deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and community of Renee Nicole Good. Her death is a devastating tragedy that demands transparency, accountability, and justice.

The reported circumstances surrounding Ms. Good’s death, including the involvement of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are deeply troubling. Ohio is no stranger to the unfair and harmful treatment carried out by ICE officers, particularly toward marginalized communities. These patterns of conduct cannot be ignored, excused, or normalized.

Our country is still reeling from the loss of George Floyd and countless other lives taken as a result of violence inflicted by government authorities. When harm is caused by those entrusted to protect and serve, it creates deep distrust, fear, and division within our communities. Each incident further erodes public confidence in institutions meant to uphold justice and safety.

This moment also requires moral clarity from our elected leaders. Silence in the face of injustice is not neutrality,

it is complicity. If our leaders are satisfied with this type of behavior or are too afraid to speak out, the people have a responsibility to respond.

It is time to show how we feel at the polls. Civic engagement is one of the most powerful tools available to our communities. When leaders fail to protect human dignity or hold agencies accountable, they can and should be voted out.

The OLBCF remains steadfast in its commitment to human rights, fair policies, and systemic reform. We honor the life of Renee Nicole Good and reaffirm our resolve to pursue truth, justice, and meaningful change so that no other family is forced to endure such a loss.
