As the President and CEO of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, I stand with a heavy heart in the aftermath of the 2024 general election. The outcome represents more than just a political shift; it embodies a continuation of a long history of disenfranchisement and systemic oppression that Black people—and especially Black women—have faced in America. Here in Ohio, where the fight for equality has been fought on so many fronts, we are once again reminded that the path toward justice is long and filled with challenges that are as deeply rooted as the foundation of this country itself. Black people are expected to show up, to push forward, and to carry the weight of a democracy that has too often failed to protect us.
